Apres Le Coup, Le Deluge
Massive flooding here due to torrential rains and poor drainage so my assistant and I (yes, people, I have an assistant, now get over it...) left as the water dripped down from the roof of our office building LIKE a SHOWER. As I waded home in water up to my knees, every cockroach dead or alive came out of the Bangkok sewers and I had to coax myself along saying things like, "Hey intrepid foreign correspondent, what you scared of a coupla bugs? What are you going to do after months in the Burmese jungle trying to get pictures of Aung Sun Suu Kyi, huh?" At the corner of my street (and it's a long way down it to my apartment) a motorcycle taxi driver recognized me and I rode a motorbike through a foot and a half of water all the way home.
Only in Bangkok would that seem like a good idea!
