I Rossoneri: I Migliori in Europa
So last night, N and I woke up at 1.35 am to watch the Champion's League Final: AC Milan v Liverpool in Athens. Last time these two teams met in Istanbul in 2005, it was pretty much the best football match ever. I suppose a case could be made for various classic World Cup matches, but those are national squads and therefore different in nature. National sides have so many characteristics--they are like monarchy as a system of government, whoever is born in the right place is what you get. (Sorry, Thailand.)
AC Milan, i maestri of Serie A, are a complete delight to watch even without Shevchenko and Liverpool likewise capable of wonderful, exciting play given their talented strikers. Last time, the match was epic--exhilarating and everything that watching football is supposed to be. I remember being on both a cell and a landline watching the match alone.
This time I was dozing on the couch and although play was good, one wouldn't call it inspired, though there were moments of beauty. And after that I went back to sleep. I feel refreshed today which is sad, since football season is now over and I won't have to wake up to watch matches in the middle of the night for long while.
I like the CL theme song. It's in English, French, and German.
